The Department for Communication of the Ministry of MEIDECC completed a two days training course for Maritime Radio Operator to acquire Restricted Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency. The training started on 18th to 19th March, 2021 and was held at the Vava’u Emergency Coordination Centre of the Ministry of MEIDECC.

The training was opened by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Paula P. Ma’u and attended by participant from Government Ministries, Public Enterprises, Community and Tour Operators.

The CEO opened the training with a remark reminding participants of the important of being certified as an Operator to operate VHF and HF Radio communication equipment. This equipment provide services that is unique to maritime, a medium of communication during disaster saving people life. Not only that, Tonga by law is bind by international convention with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulation 2020 and International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is our obligation that we provide this training in compliance.
The CEO thank all participant for being supportive by participating wishing them successful in the training, final the exam to being a good cause to effectively and efficiently carrying out their respective role and responsibilities .
