June 16, 2021, The Ministry responsible for Communications (i.e MEIDECC) has intended pursuant to section 86 of the Communication Act 2015, that the Regulator shall have to develop and update once every two (2) years a plan which is known as the National Spectrum Plan (NSP); and beforehand shall put forth for a consultation under section 86(4) of the Act, before it is approved by the Minister of MEIDECC by declaration (section 86(3)).
The purpose of the National Spectrum Plan is to enable the Regulator of the communications sector (for the time-being, the Ministry) to manage the radio frequency spectrum over a period of at least 5 years (section 86(2)), which includes:
- the policy of how different parts of the radio frequency spectrum are used and allocated;
- have any proposed changes to how parts of the radio frequency spectrum are used or allocated (including the details of the changes and relevant timelines); and
- to identify any part of the radio frequency spectrum that is a valuable state resource.
A Wall Chart of the frequency allocation table is attached for ease of reference for each range of radio frequencies allocated to which band of services.
Should you have any views on the National Spectrum Plan, please, feel free to incorporate them to the Draft National Spectrum Plan attached and submit back to Mr. 'Álifeleti Tuíhalamaka, Director for Communications on email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
