TCC, TCL and Digicel with the Department of Communication collaborated to provide Covid-19 Repatriation Support.
Tongas major network operators Tonga Communications Corporation and Digicel (Tonga) Ltd continues sponsoring repatriation flights for Tongans stranded abroad since the commencement of repatriation flight in July 2020. Since its instigation in July 2020 they’ve both offered sim & data packages to a total of 1,731 repatriated passengers. Thus far, the total value for sponsorship of repatriation flights of both operators is approximately valued at TOP$175,000.00. In addition to the repatriats they’ve also expanded their support to the front line staff as well. Further gratitude is extended to Tonga Cable Ltd for their offer of 50Mbps to Makeke quarantine base for 3 months.
The NEMC task force for COVID -19 continues to organise flights to bring back tongan citizens from Fiji, New Zealand and Brisbane, Australia. His Majesty’s Cabinet approved that the planned repatriation flights will recommence from 3rd March 2021 on a four(4) weeks progression thereafter as a result of 21 days quarantine.
