Kingdom of Tonga Participated in the SAPEIC World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) Training Program and the 4th APT Preparatory Meeting for WTDC-25, 13th – 18th July, 2025 Pattaya, Thailand.
The Kingdom of Tonga represented at significant telecommunications development meetings in Pattaya, Thailand, from 13-18 July 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation's participation in global telecommunications governance.
On 13 July 2025, Tonga delegates participated in the "Strengthening Asia and the Pacific Engagement in ITU Conferences" (SAPEIC) training program supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (DITRDCA). The project aims to enhance the engagement of developing countries from the Asia and Pacific region in global ITU conferences.
Following the training, delegates attended the 4th Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for WTDC-25 (APT WTDC25-4) from 14-18 July 2025.The meeting was designed to assist APT members in preparing for the ITU World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25), scheduled for November 2025, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The preparatory meeting focuses on developing regional positions and strategies for the upcoming global conference, which addresses critical telecommunications development issues affecting developing nations.
The Kingdom of Tonga represented by Ms. Veahepi Lilo and Ms. Malia Vea from the Department of Communications, Ministry of MEIDECC. Their participation demonstrates Tonga's commitment to active engagement in regional and international telecommunications policy development and capacity building.
The meetings represent an important opportunity for Tonga to collaborate with regional partners and contribute to policy discussions that will shape the future of telecommunications development in the Asia-Pacific region.
